EVN measurements show no evidence for radio emission from the Type Ia SN 2014J

A team led by Miguel A. Pérez-Torres has used the FP7 RadioNet3 transnational access programme to look for a radio emission in the recently discovered supernova Type Ia SN2014J. The newly made observations with a total of 8 EVN stations show that there is no evidence of such emission in the surrounding region.

3rd RadioNet3 European Radio Astronomy Technical Forum Workshop - Revised Announcement

The 3rd RadioNet3 European Radio Astronomy Technical Forum Workshop "Metrologies at Radio Astronomy Antennas" is announced to take place on September 1- 2, 2014 at Chalmers University in Gothenburg, Sweden and not as a Special Session of the 2014 IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation and USNC-URSI Radio Science Meeting as previously planned.

First fringes for the Sardinia Radio Telescope

Fringes were found in an interferometric observation done on 27 January 2014 between the Sardinia Radio Telescope and the Medicina 32m dish of 3C454.3 at 22GHz. These are the first fringes found with the SRT, a 64m dish inaugurated in September 2013.

RadioNet3 ERATec Special Session at the IEEE-AP/URSI Symposium

The 3rd RadioNet3 European Radio Astronomy Technical Forum Workshop “Metrologies at Radio Astronomy Antennas” has been announced. It will be organized as a Special Session of the 2014 IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation and USNC-URSI Radio Science Meeting, which will be held at the Memphis Convention Center in Memphis, Tennessee, USA, July 6th – 12th 2014.

ERC Synergy Grant to image event horizon of black hole

The European Research Council (ERC) has awarded 14 Million Euros to a team of European astrophysicists to construct the first accurate image of a black hole. The team will test the predictions of current theories of gravity, including Einstein's theory of General Relativity. The funding is provided in the form of a ‘Synergy Grant’, the largest and most competitive type of grant of the ERC.

Horizon 2020 approved by the European Parliament

Horizon 2020 was approved by the European Parliament on November 21st, 2013. The European Commission welcomed the European Parliament's adoption of Horizon 2020, the next EU research and innovation programme. Horizon 2020, will run from 2014 to 2020 with a budget of nearly EUR 80 billion.

RadioNet3 Mid Term Review

RadioNet3 has been under review for the first 18 months of his activity. The Mid Term Review took place at the Max-Planck-Institut fuer Radioastronomie in Bonn on November 18, 2013. The aim of a technical review is to assess the work carried out under the project over the period and provide recommendations to the Commission. The RadioNet3 Reviewer was Prof. Richard Schilizzi, University of Manchester. The EC Commissioner Elena Righi-Steele attended the review session.
