The European radio astronomy programme, RadioNet, started end of March
with a kick off meeting near Schiphol. The program has been awarded 10
Million Euro by the European Commission under the Seventh European
Framework Programme (FP7). RadioNet is an EC integrating activity that
brings together all the major radio observatories in Europe, covering
the frequency range of 10 MHz to 1 THz.
ASTRON as the coordinating institute has a central role in the new FP7
RadioNet programme with Mike Garrett ASTRON General Director acting as
coordinator. The ASTRON management team is completed by Corina Vogt as
Project Scientist, André van Es as Project Manager and Emmy Boerma and
Aukelien van den Poll (JIVE) as project administrators.
Based on the highly successful RadioNet FP6 programme, RadioNet FP7
will receive funding from the EC over the next 3 years (2009-2011). The
new project is also supported with considerable national funding from
the participating institutes, and formally kicked off in a Hotel near
Schiphol on the 30th of March 2009 followed by a first Board meeting on
the 31st of March.
