  • List of activities organised during reporting period

A lot happened within WP2 during the period 1 July 2010 - 30 June 2011. The full list of events is given below. It includes topic oriented workshops (1,5,6), large conferences and meetings (3,4,8,12), workshops and meetings focussed on the data reduction and analysis of the new generation radio interferometers (2,7,9,11), and a meeting of the European Pulsar Timing Array (EPTA) group.

  • Meetings attended – both meetings for NA organisation or meetings on behalf of RadioNet

I was SOC member in the 10th EVN Symposium and in the workshop (6), and I attended both.

Problems / Issues

  • Issues - organisational, administrative or other problems foreseen

The organisation of the long list of events has been fairly smooth on the scientific side, and no major problems have arised. There are usually some delays in the reimbursement requests when these are centralized (for instance the ALMA related activities, LOFAR events and the EPTA meeting). I usually have to chase the administration responsible for the claim, and really push to have the claims sent. I think this works in the end. This partly accounts for the apparent underspenditure of WP2. Another peculiarity is that it seems that some activities are overbudgeted: the EPTA meetings are usually cheaper than it is foreseen, and the ALMA people usually spend less than allocated. I think this should be kept in mind during RadioNet3.

  • Red flags - major problems

None

Forward Look

Two meetings, listed for Q4-2011 have been postponed to early 2012 due to organizational reasons. The implementation plan for the last semester of RadioNet2 thus includes:

1) Conference “The central kiloparsec in galactic nuclei” - Koeln (D), 29 August - 2 September 2011 2) 4th European Radio Interferometry School - Rimini (IT), 5-10 September 2011 (see notes below) 3) Conference “The Milky Way in the Herschel Era” - Rome (IT), 19-23 September 2011 4) COST Working Group Meeting - Manchester (UK), 3-4 November 2011

Note that the contribution to ERIS from WP2 has been agreed with Corina and the RadioNet2 board in the light of the fact that WP2 has contributed to some activities related to WP4, and that there was some money left from the first 18 months

  • * Expected milestones/deliverables

Milestones and deliverables are in various forms. Each scientific meeting has a web page, listed above. In most cases the presentations are made available in pdf format, as it can be easily seen accessing the web links provided. A short paper was published on Messenger on event (5) The Impact of Herschel on ALMA early Scince, and it can be downloaded at www.eso.org/sci/publications/messenger/.../messenger-no140-66-66.pdf. Online conference proceedings (PoS) were published for the 10th EVN Symposium and can be found at http://pos.sissa.it/cgi-bin/reader/conf.cgi?confid=125. Conference proceedings were published for the workshop “Colliding galaxy clusters and non-thermal phenomena” with Memorie della Societa' Astronomica Italiana (Italian Astronomical Society), Vol. 84 (2011). Conference proceedings will be published for the conference “The central kiloparsec in galactic nuclei” (Journal of Physics, Conference Series).
