Achievements in reporting period:

  • List of activities organised during reporting period

1) 30-50 GHz Science Workshop, Manchester (UK), 14-15 September 2009 - Allocated 3500 Euro

2) ALMA Workshop “From data cubes to science”, Koln (DE), October 5-7, 2009 - Allocated 7000 Euro

3) Tutorial on CASA, Bonn (DE), 5-7 October 2009 - Allocated 1500 Euro

Event 3) has been added very recently, after careful inspection of the financial resources still available.

Problems / Issues

  • Issues - organisational, administrative or other problems foreseen

One issue which has recently raised is the continuous request of support for CASA tutorials. On one hand, I am aware of the fact that NA2 is expected to include ALMA Science and related events (i.e. CASA tutorials); on the other, it is definitely not possible to support all initiatives at a high level of contribution requested. I have contacted Martin Zwaan from ESO, to ask for collaboration on this. It has been agreed that NA2 provides a total of 10 kEuro/year for the CASA tutorials, and the sum is distributed among the various tutorials across Europe. Details on the CASA tutorial plan for 2010 should be ready soon.

  • Red flags - major problems

Forward Look

  • Plan for next year – 12 month outlook, more detail in first 6 month (including budget for each planned meeting/workshop)

The following list of activities is still preliminary, and additions are expected from ALMA and EPTA.

1) “Compact Binaries” Workshop, Barcelona (ES), January 2010 - Allocated 9000 Euro

2) CASA Tutorial, Bologna (IT), possibly March 2010 - Allocated 5000 Euro

3) “Magnetic Fields” Workshop, Riccione (IT), April or May 2010 - Allocated 7000 Euro

4) “Astronomy with Megastructures” Workshop, Crete (GR), 10-14 May 2010 - Allocated 15 kEuro

5) SKA Forum, The Netherlands, Spring 2010 - Allocated 9000 Euro

6) 10th EVN Symposium, Manchester (UK), September 2010 - Allocated 12 kEuro
