Achievements in reporting period:

During the reporting period (January 1st - September 25th) we have provided a total of 266 hours of e-MERLIN observations for TNA-enabled projects. These observations are associated with 6 original MERLIN and MERLIN+EVN projects. e-MERLIN is being commissioned during 2009 and 2010, and the observations reported here are in the original MERLIN bandwidth configuration but with new e-MERLIN receivers.

The TNA-enabled progammes are listed below:

Code Title PI Time
MN/06B/13 Low Power CSS K-Bajraszewska 49hrs
MN/08B/09 NSL1-BAL Quasars Zuther 24hrs
RR022 IC2497 Rampadarath 78hrs
EP064 ULIRGs Perez-Torres 75hrs
EP065 Megamaser ULIRGs Perez-Torres 25hrs
EW013 OH masers in post-AGB stars Wolak 15hrs
Total 266hrs

Observations for all these projects have now been completed.

During e-MERLIN commissioning proposals may only be submitted for Director's Discretionary Time. Future open proposal submission is planned to be re-introduced as e-MERLIN comes on line (around Q2 2010).

Problems / Issues

  • Issues - organisational, administrative or other problems foreseen
  • Red flags - major problems

Forward Look

  • e-MERLIN digital commissioning is going well, with fringes from 3 telescopes. Two further telescopes due on-line by November, and last telescope (Cambridge) around the end of the year. MERLIN observations are still being made in conjunction with commissioning, and shared-risk observations with e-MERLIN will start in early 2010.
