e-MERLIN is looking for Support Scientists

e-MERLIN invites applications for two e-MERLIN (www.e-merlin.ac.uk) Support Scientist positions, available immediately. The two posts have a 70:30 split between support duties and the appointees own research. Appointees will join the existing Jodrell Bank Observatory (JBO) / e-MERLIN teams who are responsible for the scientific support and operations of the e-MERLIN array.

Post holders are expected and encouraged to pursue research, independently or in collaboration with staff and students at JBO / Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics (JBCA, www.jb.man.ac.uk).

JBO is part of the University of Manchester's School of Physics and Astronomy and JBCA, one of the largest astrophysics groups within the UK. It operates the 76-m Lovell Telescope and other large radio telescopes within e-MERLIN, participates in Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI), and hosts the SKA project international headquarters and the UK's ALMA Regional Centre.

e-MERLIN is a network of seven large radio telescopes across the UK linked to a central operations and processing hub at Jodrell Bank. The e-MERLIN array is one of the premier instruments in the world for very high sensitivity (microJansky) radio imaging at sub-arcsecond resolutions. The e-MERLIN / VLBI National Facility is operated by the STFC and the University of Manchester for use by scientists world-wide.
